Tokyo Support Center for the Arts and Culture ARTNOTO is a platform for artists and cultural practitioners established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Arts Council Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture. We support those working in Tokyo to sustain their activities and pursue new endeavors by providing comprehensive support, mainly online—working alongside specialists such as lawyers and tax accountants, as well as external professional organizations.
ARTNOTO has three core functions: a consultation service, where consultants with knowledge and experience in the arts and culture are available to respond to queries; an information hub, which delivers useful information for artistic and cultural activities through various tools; and our school, where leading lecturers share essential expertise and skills. We offer a multifaceted service tailored to address each individual’s problems and concerns, the status of their activities, as well as their goals and objectives.
The name ARTNOTO is derived from the Japanese āto no to, which can mean both “the door to art” and “the capital of art,” and comes from our desire to open various artistic doors to resolve problems and concerns associated with working in the arts, and to make Tokyo a capital for the arts, one that shines more and more as a city of arts and culture.
Consultants with knowledge and experience in the arts and culture respond to the various problems and concerns faced by artists and cultural practitioners, helping them work toward solutions. Depending on the nature of the inquiry, we may connect you to an appropriate organization or introduce you to external specialists, such as lawyers, if needed.
We provide useful information in order to help address a range of problems and concerns that may arise when conducting artistic or cultural activities, ranging from matters connected to accounting and taxation, to funding, activity spaces, and harassment issues. We act as a central point of distribution for information, using multiple platforms such as our own website, YouTube, note, and LINE.
We offer learning programs aimed at improving the working environment for artists and cultural practitioners by building a stronger foundation for their activities and fostering networking. Featuring guest lecturers who actively lead their respective fields, these programs, mainly held online, cover a wide range of topics—from essential knowledge in the creative field to commentary on contemporary issues.
